Seonaid McIntosh makes history at Rio World Cup

Scottish Rifle Shooter Seonaid McIntosh set a new bar for British Shooting at the ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. On Wednesday 28th August she won Silver in the Women’s 10metre Air Rifle. This would have earned a Quota Place to the Tokyo Olympics had she not already won a Quota at the 2018 World Championships. This was the first Air Rifle World Cup Medal won by a Brit since Louise Minett won Silver at the 1999 Atlanta World Cup.

Not content with Silver however, Seonaid went on to win Gold in the Women’s 50Metre Three-Position Rifle. This makes her the first British Woman to win a World Cup Rifle event and on September 1st propelled her to the top of the ISSF World Rankings for 3-Position - the first British Woman to become World Number 1.

Seonaid McIntosh World Number One

In the past 12 months Seonaid has become World Champion in Women’s Prone Rifle, placed 4th in Three-Position Rifle at the World Championships, and now cleared a Silver and Gold at World Cup level. She is in a better position ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games than any Rifle Shooter since Mike Babb. Could she bring home Britain’s first Olympic Rifle Medal since 1988?

Theo Dodds wins rare double

Theo Dodds took the double at the NSRA National Smallbore Championships, winning both the X-Class Aggregate and the “Earl Roberts” (the British Prone Championship). For fullborers - this is equivalent to winning both the Imperial Grand Agg and the Queen’s Final. It wasn’t all plain sailing. After four cards he was tied against Scot James Paterson and was forced to fire a tie-shoot in the Roberts Final, which Theo won 191 to 190.

ADMINISTRATION

Rossi challenges ISSF elections.

InsidetheGames reports that Italian Luciano Rossi has launched a challenge in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the outcome of the ISSF Presidential election held in December 2018, when he narrowly lost his bid to Russian Vladimir Lisin. In a 39 page brief, he claims to have unearthed new evidence of irregularities during the elections. 2018 was marked by rising tensions between the Lisin and Rossi camps, which culminated in Lisin winning 148-144. The saga continues…

RIP Mark Bradley

Our condolences to the friends and family of Mark Bradley who has passed after a lengthy illness. Mark was a well-respected rifle-builder and AR15 specialist in CSR and Practical Shooting circles. Bisley will be a less interesting place in his absence.
