BUCS Smallbore Championship (Appleton Ranges)

The BUCS Long Range Championship was held at Appleton Ranges on April 6th. To nobody’s surprise, Women’s Prone World Champion Seonaid Mc won the Ladies and Overall. Southampton however broke Edinburgh’s three-year streak in the Team of 8, forcing them into Silver medal position.

  • Teams of 8: Southampton; Edinburgh; St Andrews
  • Teams of 4: Edinburgh; Cardiff; Southampton
  • Pairs: Edinburgh; Southampton; St Andrews
  • Ladies Triad: Cardiff; Edinburgh; St Andrews
  • Men’s Individual: J. Hill (Southampton); T. Diggle (Edinburgh); M. Crossley (Southampton)
  • Ladies: S. McIntosh (Heriot-Watt); H. Rees-Lay (Edinburgh); S. Davies (York St. John)
  • Home Countries International: Scotland; Wales; England

The Appleton match has seen a growth in numbers in the past couple of years, both in terms of teams and the number of individuals. Strength of depth still appears to be a problem at some Universities however, with clubs only sporadically able to raise full Teams of 8 - frequently only bringing a squad of 4 or 6. Regular medallists Aberdeen were not in attendance this year, I certainly hope this is a one-off. On the plus side, the Welsh Universities were able to not only raise a team of 8 for the Home International, but successfully edged out England!

The Torfaen Open was shot on Sunday 7th April at Long Ashton Ranges:

  • X-Class - Simon Green (619.7), Richard Hemingway (618.4), Matthew Mann (617.7)
  • A-Class - Jessica Powell (614.5 - also Ladies Champion), Sue Norman (614.2), Katie Watford (614.1)
  • B-Class - Matthew Clement (614.4), Andrew Phillips (611.3), Steve Crabb (609.7)
  • C-Class - John Harris (601.3), Dave Hurrell (598.0), Owain Hart-Pugh (597.3)
  • D-Class - Simon Casson (591.1), Alastair Kinross (590.9 x19), Eric Jones (590.9 x15)

Appleton RC Easter Shoot

Simon Green won overall, with a cracking 9-off over a Double Dewar, although Neil Day edged Simon out at 50metres by a point.

  • X-Class - S. Green (Appleton)
  • A-Class - A.R. Horrocks (Salford)
  • B-Blass - S. Jones (Weston)
  • C-Class - P. Barron (Rugeley)
